FontThe Baptismal Font

The font, which had been presented by Mr.W.A.R.Wood and Mr.E.St.J.Lawson in 1905, was sited near the main entrance to the church, the traditional position, symbolising that one enters the kingdom of God by believing in Christ and responding to His command to be baptised. It remained there for more than a hundred years but was moved to a position near the "Little Children" window in 2010.

At present, infant baptisms are usually performed facing the congregation, using a silver bowl which had been presented by the Christ Church children in 1950. Adults are generally baptised outside the building, by total immersion.
