(M.R.) CHULALONGKORN R. Somdetch Phra Paramindr Maha Chulalongkorn Phra Chula Chom Klao, King of Whereas
formerly a piece of land situated on the Southern side of Wat
Yannawa monastery in Bangkok was graciously set
apart by his late Majesty King Maha Mongkut to the Protestant Community to serve as a site
for a place of worship: And
whereas a petition has, in the month of June 1903, been presented to Us by
the Committee of the Bangkok Protestant Church (said Committee representing
the Protestant Community above mentioned) setting forth that owing to the
extension of commerce, the disturbance of the solemnity of the services by
noises from the adjacent factories and the river traffic, and the scattered
situation of the Protestant Community, the present place is no longer
suitable for a place of worship, and praying Us to grant authorization to
sell the said piece of land in order to build a new church with the proceeds,
and also to grant a more convenient site in another part of the city of
Bangkok. It
has pleased Us to view the reasons set forth in the petition with favour and concurrence, and our Royal Command has been
given to the Ministry of Local Government to find a suitable piece of land to
set apart for the purpose of providing a new site for a place of worship for
the Protestant Community; and the Ministry of Local Government has procured
such a piece of land situated on Sathorn Road 2 sen and 10 wah long on the
North and South sides by 2 sen wide on the East and
West sides, having an area of 2,000 square wah.
This piece of land has been considered by Us to be conveniently accessible,
free from disturbing influences and eminently suitable for establishing a
place of worship. And
upon the acceptance by said Committee of the new piece of land so provided,
We do hereby most graciously authorize the sale by the Committee of the piece
of land so set apart by His late Majesty King Maha Mongkut the money arising from such sale to be employed
by the Committee in the erection of a new place of worship upon the premises
by this decree set apart. And
we do hereby further set apart during our pleasure the premises herein
described with the building so to be erected thereon, for a church and for
other purposes of religion for the people who are of the Protestant religion,
provided that this shall not include the right to use the premises for the
interment of the dead. Given
